Finding Kitchen Remodeling Floor Plans
![]() |
There are many places where you can find kitchen remodeling floor plans. One place is at your local library or bookstore. There are lots of books, and even magazines, devoted to planning the perfect kitchen. In this article we'll explore several popular floor plans and what they involve to help you get an idea of what you want.
The L-Shaped Design
The L-Shaped, U-Shaped and Galley designs all make use of a traditional layout where the sink, stove and refrigerator are positioned in a triangular format. L-Shaped kitchens are just that -- designed so that the counters form the shape of an L. This type of kitchen is efficient and gives the cook lots of counter space on which to work if the appliances are placed fairly close to one another.
The U-Shaped Design
This design needs lots of space and is best for large kitchens. The counters form a U-shape, which means there is lots of countertop and cabinet space available. This kitchen design is perfect for adding stools or seating where friends and family can gather. The stove, sink and refrigerator should all be positioned on one side of the U rather than spread out for maximum efficiency.
The Galley Design
Galley kitchens are ideal for small kitchens. They feature empty space between two counters. Normally, the stove and sink is on one side and the refrigerator is on the other. This design makes good use of limited space and gives you more storage and work room than you thought you could have in a tiny kitchen. The only downside to this design is that the galley kitchen is usually only big enough for one person to work in.
The One-Wall Design
The one-wall design is self-explanatory and features one wall of cabinets. This design is best for large yet narrow kitchens. The sink, stove and refrigerator should be positioned close together so you can work efficiently. Like the galley kitchen, this design usually only provides room for one person to work comfortably.
Multiple Work Stations
Another choice when it comes to kitchen remodeling floor plans is to utilize multiple work stations. The most efficient way to do this is by adding a kitchen island. Islands can feature sinks, ranges and plentiful cabinet space. Not only do they provide more cabinet and countertop space, they make it easy for more than one person to work in the kitchen at a time. With today's modern families sharing in the cooking and cleaning duties, the multiple work station kitchen is gaining in popularity.
